As the calendar flips to August, thoughts turn to going back to school. Spending the day at Crown Center is a perfect way to make summer memories and prime the kids’ minds for learning.
Crown Center’s immersive children’s exhibit – Curious George™: Let’s Get Curious! – uses the fun of Curious George to teach early science, math, and engineering concepts by encouraging problem solving and curiosity.
Based on H.A. and Margret Rey’s classic children’s books and inspired by the PBS Kids animated television series, this exhibit brings the bright and colorful neighborhood of Curious George to life. Each station in the exhibit is set up like a scene from the books or TV show:
- Visit the Apartment Building and move pulleys to help George wash windows.
- Sort fruits and vegetables at the Sidewalk Produce Stand, then ring up the sale and practice how to count money.
- Stop by the Construction Site and use a conveyor belt to move building materials.
- Play three holes of Mini Golf and experiment with the laws of motion.
- Learn about wind power and animals at the Farm.
- Plus, enjoy plenty of photo opps with Curious George!
A Day Full of Fun
After spending time in the Curious George™: Let’s Get Curious! exhibit, grab a bite to eat from one of Crown Center’s many dining options and sit down for lunch. Having a burger and shake delivered by electric train at Fritz’s Railroad Restaurant is always a hit. Or enjoy a sweet treat from Sheridan’s Frozen Custard, Cupcakin’ Bakery, or Chip’s Chocolate Factory.
Cross off some of that back-to-school shopping with a visit to the Crayola Store for school supplies and Kid Oh! for stylish kids’ clothing, both on Level 2.
Plan ahead and snag tickets for a show at Crown Center’s acclaimed children’s theater, The Coterie, which features a musical called Alice’s Wonderland through Aug. 7. Or check out Sea Life Kansas City aquarium and their special exhibit, Peppa Pig’s Aquarium Adventure through Aug. 14.
For little ones who are too young for school, planning to visit the exhibit in late August is a great time to miss the summer crowds and beat the heat.
