A Tour of Our Playroom

Come check out the playroom I created for my daughter!

Today feels like a great day to share our playroom update with you!

When we purchased this house 3 years ago, we knew that we were going to turn the formal dining room into a playroom for our daughter, Everly. The first few years we lived here we kept the same dark blue paint on the walls, but added some toy storage and called it her playroom.

About six months ago I decided I was finally tired of that ugly blue, and I wanted to brighten up the space a bit. I painted the walls a bright white. I probably went a little overboard with some other bright colors considering this room is right off the main entrance to our house, but I kind of figured, hey, she’s only little once and who cares what anyone else thinks!

Here are some photos of her space. It’s bright and cheerful, and reminds me of what childhood is all about. I’m especially thankful for this space now, since she’s out of preschool and has been home with us for the past few months. It’s her own personal oasis where she can create, imagine, and make a mess. It’s also a nice space for our little family to hang out, watch a movie, play a game, play music, sing, and dance.

Okay, let's do a quick tour!

We bought this Little Tikes Cape Cottage two Christmases ago. She still loves it and plays in it all. The. Time.

I found these cute clips at Target just a few weeks ago, and they matched perfectly! Had to have them!

This Nugget Comfort is currently the most played with “toy” in our home. In the past few months it has been used as a couch, a bed, an obstacle course, a play office, a grocery store, a castle, a tower, a teepee, a stuffed pet hospital, a slide, a race track, and so much more. There’s a waiting list to get a Nugget, but you won’t regret purchasing one if you have the space to put it. I’m really wanting to get a new cover for ours since they have so many other fun colors, but I haven’t taken the leap yet. The cute pillows came from Target, they matched so perfectly I couldn’t refuse them.

This little black table is from Pottery Barn, a hand me down from my sister. It’s gone through her 3 kids and now Ev, and it’s held up amazingly. I’m toying with the idea of painting it, but that probably won't happen until I replace the Nugget cover. So maybe never!

On either side of our front window, Ev’s art is displayed on these fun beaded garlands I bought at Hobby Lobby. I just added mini clothespins on twine along each garland so we could hang multiple pieces. She absolutely loves picking out the perfect spot to put each creation. The teal curtains came from At Home, and the rug was an absolute steal I found for $79 at Home Goods. I had been looking for a colorful rug for ages, and happened across this one and it was a no-brainer. Like I said….it’s bright in this room, but it’s so much fun.

This great cabinet came from NFM. This piece and it's matching piece were a housewarming gift from my Mom. She knew we needed some playroom storage, and this worked perfectly! All the mess gets tucked behind these two doors! And yes, that bad boy is definitely anchored to the wall!

Here’s what the inside looks like. The basket on the top has all the art supplies specific to Ev’s virtual story-time art class. The “Basgall” basket is where I throw miscellaneous toys that I find while cleaning, so the next time a puzzle piece or part to a game is missing, I know just where to look. The tubs inside each contain a toy set of some kind. It’s a good way to keep things organized, and she knows she can’t get a new one out until she puts the current one back. It’s a good system that works for us (or at least works most of the time).

Here’s the matching piece of furniture my mom gave us. This one shows a little more of the mess, but I can live with that. It’s a great place to store games, puzzles, dress up and other things we want Ev to have easy access to. If you look closely,  you'll also see Garret stores his original Nintendo here. He and Everly love to "save the princess" together. Everly's getting quite good at it, actually.

The bubble gum machine to the left was my Dad’s. He passed away late last year, and had written down that he wanted Ev to have his bubble gum machine. So sweet. Above the storage unit are some fun pieces that have meaning to us. A few gifts from friends, a few photos, and more art made by Everly.

That's it! Not super exciting, but there's a little glimpse into the most kid-friendly space in our home!
