This article highlights my journey with Jenny Craig for the week of March 15th-21st.

I officially am a work from home employee. My CEO called me Sunday evening and told me that I and my entire department now work from home. A million emotions came over me like rapid fire. First, relief. Then immediately fear, followed by panic. How I would run my department when the 500+ people I manage can’t do their normal jobs? I’m in the human business. My job and the job of those I manage is to take care of people, however we can, wherever they are in their journey. And now we aren’t allowed to do that in the way we’ve done it for years. Talk about stressful!

Normally when I’m under this amount of stress, the first thing I do is turn to food (and drink). But on Sunday night after hearing this news, I thought to myself; I am on this amazing Jenny Craig journey, and I am down 10 pounds (* Avg. weight loss 1-2 lbs/week for members following the program). I am NOT screwing this up. So I made a promise to myself that I’d stick to the program, lean on my consultant, and keep my promise to care for myself. If there was ever a time that self-care was important, this was it. So, I opened the freezer, pulled out my meal and prepared dinner as planned.

On Monday, I got a call from Connie, my Jenny Craig consultant. The smart folks over at Jenny Craig had decided that they were discontinuing face-to-face meetings for the time being. She asked if I’d be willing to have a phone chat instead, and of course, I agreed. She said she’d send me my weekly menu in advance so I could look it over and make any needed substitutions, and then I would drive up to my Jenny Craig location, and Connie would hand off my food for the week.

So Tuesday morning, while driving to Jenny Craig, I called Connie and we talked. We talked about the stress of my job, and the challenges working from home brings. The biggest challenges we discussed were my inclination to stress eat, and the temptation of having access to my entire fridge and pantry at any given time. Connie reminded me about the success I’ve had so far and made some recommendations about how I might stay on track. She asked if I needed any substitutions on my meal plan for the week, and then we hung up so she could go get all my food ready for curbside pick up.

Having the weekly check-in with Connie is so meaningful, in person or over the phone. With everything going on right now, it’s just so nice that there’s one conversation I get to have each week that is all about me and my well being. The check-ins lift me up, motivate me for the week, and keep me focused on my goals. Since our chat on Tuesday, I have had a great week on Jenny Craig. I’ve stayed on plan 100%, and haven’t even been tempted to grab a random food item from the pantry. I’m so grateful for the support of Jenny Craig, and I look forward to seeing what my progress looks like in the coming weeks, even through this crazy season of life.
