The Laundry Can Wait, Life Can't

A Note From the Publisher

By Melissa Basgall, Publisher Macaroni Kid Kansas City Kansas - Leavenworth September 13, 2019

It's been a while since I've sent out a "Note From the Publisher, so I thought I'd send a quick "hello" today, and a recap of what's been going on in our world. Looking back over everything we did the past week, I'm wondering when I had time to sleep! Hopefully next week we can slow it down and spend some quality time at home, because my house is a wreck. I'm not exaggerating when I say there is a mountain of laundry on the floor in our bedroom that everyone has been dressing themselves out of the past 3 days. Don't judge me —this is just the life of a full time working mama, who also publishes Macaroni Kid, and wants to go have fun with the fam. I will never choose folding laundry over spending time with the fam, that's just a fact. I'm a firm believer that laundry can wait, life can't.

Last Thursday I took the fam with me to the Royals game, for Hospice Night at the K (I’m a hospice volunteer manager by day). It was a fun night, visiting with volunteers, eating ballpark food, and watching the game.

Jorge Soler decided to smash the ball into left field for a home run, and the ball flew past our heads, missing us by just a few feet. The ball hit the glass doors behind us, and bounced back down to the field. It was hit so hard this smudge was left on the glass! Crazy!

A friend of ours works for the Royals, and Everly was gifted this special foul ball to take home. Look at that face. She's a die hard Royals fan just like her mom and dad.

Everly also started dance classes this week at Sarah’s Studio of Dance in Basehor. She’s in the Creative Movement class again this year, and was so excited to be going back she was bouncing off the walls. Look at that smile...what a stinker.

On Friday night we attended a family wedding at 28 Event Space in downtown Kansas City. I love any excuse to head downtown, and we had a blast dancing and visiting with family.

On Saturday morning we met Ashlyn from WonderLight Photography for Kids KC, at Cider Hill Family Orchard for a lifestyle photo session. Ashlyn was WONDERFUL, and the orchard was beautiful. I can’t wait to show you guys our session photos once we get them back! We of course couldn’t visit without snagging some of the delicious cider donuts and take some selfies!

Of course, no week is complete without Everly’s swim lessons at Emler. She just started the fall session there, and I can’t wait to see how much progress she makes in the coming months. This still remains her very favorite activity each week, she is such a fish.

This weekend I will be working, so Ev and Garret (my husband) will have some great daddy-daughter time. They are planning on a Royals game tonight, and the American Royal BBQ on Saturday. I think Garret's getting a bit ambitious with the BQQ idea, but we’ll see how they do!

I hope you all have a fantastic weekend, and have all the fun! If you need event ideas, scroll down in the newsletter and check out all the event listings for this weekend. And don't forget to register to attend our Curiosity Day Storytime, a Curious George Birthday Celebration event happening on Tuesday!
